I came across a list of the “Top 20 Most Hated Business Speak phrases” in the UK. It seems that annoying buzzwords refuse to be constrained by borders or oceans.

The following are ranked in order of the most annoying, based on a survey conducted by YouGov.co.uk and commissioned by Ramada Encore.

  1. Thinking outside of the box
  2. Touch base
  3. At the end of the day
  4. Going forward
  5. All of it
  6. Blue sky thinking
  7. Out of the box
  8. Credit crunch
  9. Heads up
  10. Singing from the same hymn sheet
  11. Pro-active
  12. Downsizing
  13. Ducks in a row
  14. Brainstorming
  15. Thought shower
  16. 360 degree thinking
  17. Flag it up
  18. Pushing the envelope
  19. At this moment in time
  20. In the loop

People really say “Singing from the same hymn sheet” in the UK?!

This all reminds me that I really enjoy working from home and rarely attending meetings where I am subjected to this buzzword bingo.

Affiliate marketing FTW!

Great video thanks for the post. I had forgotten what it was like to go to those pointless buzz word meetings. Working from home is definitely the way to go.

    LOL! That's great.

One that started after I left the corporate world that makes me LAUGH when my friends say it is, “speak to”…

As in, “We have a huge problem with our servers. Could you speak to that in the next meeting?”

You don't speak TO problems/issues/goals people. You speak ABOUT them.

I'd love to comment on this, but I need to be proactive and give a heads up to the powers that be to ensure our ducks are in a row while we brainstorm about getting everyone in the loop. They are going to think outside the box at this moment in time and touch base at the end of the day so they can speak to this problem of corporate-speak..

Funny video. I haven't heard a few of them like Blue Sky Thinking, Thought Shower, and Flag It Up. I could be the first at work with the newest catch-phrase.

    Aagght! My eyes! My eyes!

    More:

“Reach out,” when used instead of “contact.” As in “Reach out to the vendor and find out what their rates are.” Where I come from, one “reaches out” to people who need encouragement.

“Out of pocket,” when used to mean “out of the office / away from the phone.” Again, where I come from, one could be “out of pocket $5″ if one's parking isn't reimbursed, for instance. It means you spent your own money.

I highly recommend the book “Why Business People Speak Like Idiots.” Very worthwhile reading.

The most annoying buzzword that did not make this list has to be 24/7

I've got to say the one that always bugged me was to look at something “from a 30,000 foot view.”
