According to The New Media Report newsletter (nee Adbumb), ThinkPartnership has filed suit against DirectTrack to get DirectTrack to continue to power PrimaryAds, a ThinkPartnership company.

KowaBunga! Technologies, the ThinkPartnership company that powers MyAffiliateProgram, competes with the DirectTrack merchant product.

The New Media Report newsletter quotes Jason Wolfe, CEO of Direct Response Technologies as saying “We find this very flattering, but it’s a little strange that not only do they find our own technology better than theirs, but that they want to force us to continue providing services to them.”

Call me cynical, but I’ve got to believe there is more to the story.

Notwithstanding the fact that KowaBunga does not sell a CPA network solution, which is what PrimaryAds is using with the DirectTrack Network Version, it appears that there is a backstory here that has not become public.

If ThinkPartnership is in a position where they must sue to get DirectTrack to continue powering PrimaryAds, I am inclined to believe that DirectTrack is no longer willing to power PrimaryAds.

As Peter Figueredo notes in his blog, this is a “strange bit of news”.

Strange indeed - it seems that all we know now is that we don’t know the real story.
