The Year of Affiliate Video

I think 2008 is going to be the year that video breaks through for affiliate marketers. In the past year, video has become a lot more accessible to compose and publish.

While most any digital camera can record video, I think we’ll be seeing a revolution with the popularity of easy tools like the Flip video camera.

Not to mention that anybody with a MacBook has the built-in functionality to record video blogs.

Personally, I use both to capture video, and then edit with Sony Vegas Movie Studio for affiliate videos on WeViews.tv.

I saw that Mark Wielgus of 45n5.com is planning to record 365 Videos In 365 Days. That will be an interesting project to track.

Also, keep an eye on Jim Kukral’s “Daily Flip” show. I think Jim will be putting out some innovative and exciting things.

Lots of opportunities for the average affiliate to do things with Magnify.net, as well. Have a look at their Webcam Capture tool.

But it doesn’t all have to be user generated video.

I came across a commercial on YouTube for eHealth. This sort of creative would be great to see from other big advertisers for affiliates to embed.

Video creative could provide a helpful supplement to affiliate efforts in selling products and services.

The eHealth video would be good except for the url embedded on the video. We are working on some product reviews via video but realize that we’ll need to remove the domain name as an affiliate will not want to use a video with that on it. I would expect that an affiliate would want to be able to have written below the video something like, “Where do I get this great product?” and then have it link over with their trackable link.

    Hi Jason -

One solution to the URL in a video is to use a technology where the video is clickable, so an affiliate could have their URL built into the video.

I use fliqz.com for this sort of functionality for Affiliate Summit videos – not for affiliates, but for my own internal tracking of referrals from the videos.

    Shawn,

I think you are right. This is going to be the year of affiliate videos. Anyone who has already started posting videos has a jump on the learning curve ahead of the rest of the bloggers.

    i sure hope so.

it was back in 2006 when time life named “you” the person of the year for user generated content and now it’s 2008 and most affiliates still haven’t hit the record button yet.

I prefer video to text so I hope you are correct ;)
