The Case of the Underpaid Affiliate

by on August 21, 2009

If you’re an affiliate, you could be leaving money on the table… that is if you’re a performer in affiliate programs and working at the base rate.

When I asked more than four-hundred and fifty affiliates whether they have successfully requested an increase in commission from an affiliate manager for the 2009 Affiliate Summit AffStat Report, the majority said yes.

Are you an underpaid affiliate?

If you are a top affiliate for any program and you haven’t picked up the phone, turn around and do it now. Note: this isn’t foolproof – some affiliate programs have margins that won’t permit more.

The worst that can happen is they say no. The best thing – well, more money!

Generally if I see an offer that has a high commission, then I have probably got some work cut out for myself in regards to creating a nice landing page that will send click thrus, and convert. I don’t feel like the amount of commissions are so important especially when you take into account the Walmart principle. You know the more units Walmart moves the more they make. They have a concept, and I have taken a liking to it.

If you are a top affiliate, I would also suggest that if you make a request for more commissions and the manager says no, find another program to promote maybe?
