Search Engine Strategies 2.0: SMX

I went to my first Search Marketing Expo event yesterday, SMX Social Media, and it exceeded my expectations.

Day 1 of SMX Social Media was packed with top notch content, including discussions on linkbait, social news sites, social bookmarking and tagging, plus ample opportunities to network.

The day finished with an interesting keynote Q&A moderated by Danny Sullivan with Garrett Camp, Founder & Chief Product Officer of StumbleUpon, and Joshua Schachter, Founder of del.icio.us.

There was a big announcement at the show. SMX East will be held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City on October 6-8, 2008.

This is in addition to a packed schedule of boutique SMX events around the world and their big SMX West in Santa Clara on February 26-28, 2008

And if my straw poll is any indication, Search Engine Strategies (SES) is going to be in some trouble.

Perhaps this crowd was partisan, since they did come out to an SMX event, but to a person they said they’d be picking the SMX over SES in the future.

Not to mention the face-off this coming December when PubCon Las Vegas 2007 and SES Chicago take place at the same time. Based on my chats, Vegas wins that battle.

Anyhow, great job to the folks at Third Door Media.
