Econsultancy has launched the second affiliate census report, in association with Affiliate Window.
More than 1,000 UK-based affiliates were surveyed for the affiliate census, and 34% described themselves as full-time affiliates, while 46% stated they were part-time affiliates, and 20% said they were “hobbyists”.
The economy doesn’t seem to be getting affiliates down, as only 30% of affiliates see the recession as a threat to their affiliate marketing business. Alternately, 55% see the economic crisis as an opportunity.
Also, a third of full-time affiliates are now generating sales of at least £50,000 per month for their merchants.
But the affiliate census in the UK isn’t all positive. Affiliates shared some criticism of merchants for a lack of communication regarding changes or problems.
In addition to Google’s entry into the affiliate marketing space, the rise of coupon code sites is seen by affiliates as a big threat to the industry.

I think it is really interesting to see how the opinions of affiliates are changing and progressing. It can be really useful to see how you can use this information. I think it is interesting to see that travel and flights was top as this is an industry I would think would take a hit this year due to the economy. But then I suppose the flip side of that is the people that can afford will be looking for a deal.
