Recession Opportunities for Affiliate Marketers

by on April 7, 2009

Will Martin-Gill, Director of Internet Marketing for eBay, made an interesting post, Why Affiliate Marketers Will Win Big In 2009 — And How They Will Do It, today on MediaPost.com.

The article touches on a number of points th support why affiliate marketing is poised to benefit from the recession.

Perhaps one of the lesser-known and understood channels of advertising, affiliate marketing — or paying online publishers to drive quality traffic to a company’s Web site based on the purchases and revenue they help generate — has quietly grown into a $6 billion+ industry. Jupiter Research expects affiliate marketing to grow another 13% year-over-year through 2012. By comparison, eMarketer anticipates online advertising in general will increase only 8.9% in 2009, to $25.7 billion, representing the lowest year-over-year increase for online advertising to date.

Your Message@Evan:
Hi Evan – yeah, I think the stats were pretty effective in the article.

I’d imagine the combination of the recession and the tax legislation impacting affiliate marketing will continually increase the profile of the industry this year.

I read that whole post and it was good for the most part. I thought it was a bit wordy but I liked the read overall. We know how big this industry is and few other people seem to outside of the industry. It’s a growing industy and we all need to help it gain mass recognition in the advertising world. It was nice when it was more of a mysterious thing but it needs to really be acknowledged and focused on for the good of affiliates and merchants. Shawn and Missy are doing a great job promoting the good in affiliate marketing with their Affiliate Summit. More people should watch what they are doing and focus resources in growing thheir affiliate channel.I thought the article was well-written, I didn’t really analyze it, but took it as an interesting read in the morning….sorry to be long winded.
