OpenX Hosted Ad Server is Sharp

OpenX, the ad server formerly known as Openads and before that phpAdsNew, announced back in January that they were rolling out a hosted version.

OpenX HostedI was excited this past Friday to get an email that I was accepted into the Beta to use the hosted version of OpenX.

If you’re not familiar with OpenX, it is a free ad serving software that you can install on your server. In my opinion, it’s an essential tool for affiliates to test ads, efficiently control the ad real estate on sites, and crunch data.

But if you’re like me and have IDD (install deficit disorder), you cannot figure out how to install the software on your server. I paid somebody to do it for me, and had to repeat that task for upgrades, moving servers, etc.

So it’s a great relief to have this all hosted by OpenX.

If you’re currently using the OpenX software, you’ll be glad to know that the hosted interface is the same (as far as I can tell) and the installed version, so there is no learning curve.

And yes, I’ve tried Google Ad Manager. I found it to be cumbersome and not nearly as intuitive as OpenX.
