NASCAR Driver Running on Affiliate Marketing Funds

by on February 12, 2010

NASCAR driver Joe Nemechek has launched a new ad-sponsored site, FrontRowJoe.com, that enables fans to support him and his team as they compete during the 2010 NASCAR racing season.

Nemechek is working with MediaTrust on the site, where he will earn commissions on sales of products sold through the site to help offset the operating cost of his team.

This is the first time I’ve heard of a team trying to fund their racing season through affiliate marketing, and it will be interesting to see how it works out.

A few years back, Affiliate Summit joined the sponsor group of Justin Philpott Racing for the 2007 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, but this wasn’t based on affiliate commissions.

I think that’s a great idea. They could potentially make a good amount of money from that!

This is something to watch! A very cool concept if they can make it work. I will be following this and writing about it on Beltwayboysports.com

This is a really cool combination – I love it! And definitely – just like Sam says, that fans are such diehard fans – this is just a win-win situation!! Great idea!

Shawn thank you for covering this. We are seeing good results so far considering we had a short window to create this partnership. We are going to start to expand and evolve around this initial program.

We found NASCAR as an industry has all the pieces to creating very good convergent programs. Yet they were not being leveraged as a whole. In doing this we can create value for the drivers, fans and advertisers. The social channels in Facebook and Twitter are powerful tools for connecting and engaging with the fans. Who are incredibly supportive of the industry and drivers.

We are learning quiet a lot from the data we have gathered over the last few days and will be expanding the programs reach thru new web sites and content for the NEMCO team and Joe.

more to come :)

I’m already committed to a team sponsorship for the annual Asheville 500 Slot Racers.

Kenny Wallace did something similar (and successfully) to get funds for the NASCAR Nationwide Series race in Montreal last year (http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/story/?id=285810). I sent in $25 because I thought it was such a neat promotion using the basics of affiliate marketing.

It’s definitely a common sense move since we NASCAR fans can be a bit… rabid?

I know I personally spend hundreds of dollars (thousands if I were actually counting) on tickets to races, required hats and tshirt and bumper stickers and diecasts and … yeah … of my favorite driver. I wouldn’t think most fans would have a problem sending 10 or 20 bucks the way of a driver.

I still think Affiliate Summit needs to sponsor a car in the Las Vegas race this Spring :)

Sweet! I’m curious if we’ll see more celebs do stuff like this.
