Maximum Number of AdSense Units

by on July 25, 2008

The AdSense blog has outlined the maximum number of each type of ad unit their program policies allow.

It’s actually more than I thought, so helpful to get the official word on it.

In order for your pages with AdSense to be compliant, they must not exceed the following:

ONE…
- video unit (currently only available in specific countries and languages, though we’re working to expand video units to additional publishers soon)

TWO…
- AdSense for search boxes

THREE…
- standard AdSense for content ad units, and
- 3 link units

Personally, I think this is excessive, unless you have a pretty long page with lots of text.

Actually, each of the different ad units has there place done right. Google Search has been updated so that it monitizes with the subject of the page at hand. Also… another ad unit type is (or was) content advertising where people could select exactly what they wanted. Probably due to lack of usage Google is ending this part of their AdSense offerings.

Must agree I do not put much stock in link units. You need two clicks to earn a click amount. Just does not make sense to me

You like those? I get my worst eCPMs on those, and I've tested them as part of the nav, 468×15 before and after content, etc.

Ad units do way better for me.

people often overlook the link units which can be easily blended to look like navigation for your page and can therefore get an amazing CTR
