We won the battle against the advertising tax in Maryland. Senate Bill 1071 has died. The session ended late last night without the bill getting out of committee.
Great work from all the industry folks that helped and the hard work of the Lobbyists that worked on the effort in Annapolis.
But don’t throw all the confetti just yet, as the bill will surely be back next session. We’ve bought some time and can get together more folks to contact their Senators next time around.
Now it’s on to focusing on Connecticut and Minnesota.
Anybody speaking with their representatives in those states should be sure to mention that similar measures have been defeated in Maryland, Virginia and Hawaii.

It looks like there is still an expected return of this bill in 2010. But maybe we should organize an event this summer to bring together Maryland affiliates to organize support, eat some crabs and network!

Great news. Take a minute and celebrate your efforts! It’s nice to see that a battle can be won. We’re facing it here in Tennessee also, so it helps to get that info to our representatives.
I think we are lucky that we’ve bought some time – now we can really mobilize lots of people for the next round.

Thank you for all of your efforts to get the word out! This is a victory, for now – but the bill will be back. We should definitely all keep our focus and fight other initiatives in other states as well as be prepared to fight when this bill rears its ugly head once more.
Guess you cant start packing just yet.
