I came across an interesting affiliate program announcement today. The March of Dimes just launched their affiliate program on Kolimbo, and while they don’t pay commission as we’ve come to expect it, there is an opportunity for a sort of back door commission.

On the signup page, under special notes, it reads: While commissions are not earned in the traditional sense, annually March of Dimes will send out an acknowledgement of donation to be used as the affiliate sees fit (for example as a tax write off). It’s a great and easy way to support a worth-while charity.

Back when Hurricane Katrina hit, many affiliates put up Red Cross banners in their remnant inventory to help the cause. It was great to see the affiliate marketing community come together for a common cause.

But being that many of us are stat geeks, I know many folks wished they could quantify the impact of their donated ad space (I was curious myself).

If you’re not familiar with the March of Times, it’s a very worthy and reputable cause. The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. They carry out this mission through research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies’ lives.

March of Dimes researchers, volunteers, educators, outreach workers and advocates work together to give all babies a fighting chance against the threats to their health: prematurity, birth defects, low birth weight.
