Affiliate commission payments from the Google Affiliate Network will soon be made through Google AdSense accounts. This change will offer affiliates a wider range of payment options, improved ways to manage payment information, and consolidated payments from Google for those affiliates working with affiliate programs and AdSense.
Starting on August 13, 2009, affiliates will see an account notification asking them to create a Google AdSense account or link to an existing Google AdSense account.
Accounts must be linked before midnight (Eastern Standard Time) on September 21st, 2009 to receive payments through Google AdSense for July and August 2009 earnings (depending on relevant advertiser payment terms).
Any earnings prior to July 2009 will be made through the existing Google Affiliate Network payment system.
Keep an eye out for instructions via email on August 13, 2009 to assist in the account linking and creation process.

@Vlad:
Thanks – hopefully that works for others.
Shawn,
I thought to come back to report on my status, which might be helpful to other affiliates. I did apply again and this time I was approved to AdSense. I think the difference was that I applied through the link from my Google Affiliate Network…. It might very well be Google is giving special consideration to affiliates when applying for AdSense.
Anyway, here is my suggestion- when re-applying to AdSense do it from within the Google Affiliate Network interface. It worked for me.
@Shawn Collins:
From the e-mails that were send out it appears that eventually every affiliate must have an AdSense account.
I will probably keep an account opened until the cut off date, maybe they will offer some solution. Mean while looking around to replace the Google merchants with merchants from another networks.
I have not see any one else raising any fuss over it. Some blogs mentioned it but your’s is the only one that got few comments from guys in the similar situation.
@Vlad:
I hope there is some contingency plan for situations like this – I can’t imagine they’d just let a bunch of active affiliates get phased out.
The irony of this change is that I followed a few merchants from CJ.com to then Performics. My AdSense account was suspended in 2005 and I never tried to reapply, until this announcement came. The answer- denied. Reapplying I was not interested in AdSense side of things as affiliate programs make me more than AdSense ever could. So today I have decided to pull the plug on Google Affiliate Network, in the middle of taking down all the creatives and datafeeds from my sites. Will probably e-mail my merchants the reason why I am doing it and ask them if they could go back to CJ, PepperJam, LinkShare or any other network..
I wonder how many other affiliates are they loosing because of this. But I guess Google doesn’t really care.
I previously had an Adsense account but at present I have disabled that. So, whether I should create a new one or re-activate the same?
@Steve:
Have you tried asking them?
What if you have a disabled Adsense account? I know some people that have had their accounts disabled for suspected click fraud who use the affiliate network.
