Jason Calacanis delivered the opening keynote at Affiliate Summit 2008 West on Monday, February 25, 2008.
The theme of the keynote was that affiliate spam is harming affiliate marketing in a variety of ways.
Jason Calacanis is the founder of Mahalo.com (friend me up on Mahalo).
Jason posted a recap on his blog.

Thanks for posting this quickly. I’ve had lots of people asking me if it’s available.
There were lots of visuals though. What are the plans to publish the video?

Hey Scott -
We should have the video of the keynote in a couple or three weeks.
I’m not sure how long it will take for the editing and everything.
I’ll check with Jason about whether he will make the presentation available.

I agree with most of what JC said. But…after a closer look at Wikipedia, it doesn’t seem “ponzi scheme” is really anything close to what affiliate marketing is. Interesting, no page on Mahalo yet for ponzi scheme, although a favorite term used by JC.

You get to 10k visitors per month from SEO, wait, that’s BS.

Thanks for putting this up Shawn. These issues need to be discussed.
When I first read about Jason’s keynote on another blog today I thought he was a total jerk.
Now after hearing this for myself I agree with much of what he said about people gaming the system, even though he comes across as very pompous and sarcastic, hopefully he isn’t in real life .
People need to provide good content, I agree.
It will be interesting to see the effects of this discussion.
