I relocated to Austin, TX this past Sunday (Roadtrip to Austin: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4), and I am in the process of getting settled.
I’ve traded in pizza for BBQ and Tex-Mex; the New Jersey Turnpike for Lake Travis; and snow for anything else. But I’m not trading in my Yankees cap.
My new mailing address is:
7301 Ranch Road 620 N
Ste 155, 205
Austin, TX 78726-4537
Please update your Rolodex, Palm Pilot, Handspring Visor, etc.

Cool – it seems like a lot of folks here are from somewhere else. No family for me here, either.
I am Los Angeles and fell into affiliate marketing. Verizon Superpages made me an offer to come to Dallas first. Then I landed here at CreditCards.com. I do all kinds of marketing – online and offline. I have no family here in TX.
Sounds great – thank you!
Don’t miss Artz Rib House on South Lamar. Live music every night by many of the best music groups in this area. Never a cover charge, and some of the best baby back ribs I’ve ever tasted. When they’re not on tour, many outstanding musicians from the big stars’ bands play with other local groups that play at Artz on a regular schedule. Fortunately I live nearby and so I have become addicted to the food and the music. Their website is http://www.artzribhouse.com (I think). Check out their music schedule.
I’m definitely interested.
I’d really like to do something before the holidays – shooting for the week of the 13th. Worst case scenario we’ll do something in January factoring in Affiliate Summit West, of course.
Thanks – I just requested to join. Any estimated date for the first get-together?
Hey, Austinites. Myself and a few other interesting Internet people in Austin have been working on putting together a local group for people who do various types of performance-based marketing (Affiliate, Lead Gen, etc.). We’ve got about 75 members so far and the plan is to start doing some informal get-togethers soon.
The group’s laid-back like Austin but hopefully a way to connect w/ some sharp people in Austin.
If you’re interested, here’s the link to the group page: http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=1963268&mostPopular=
Thanks – I’m willing to travel for the good stuff. I’ve been deprived for years, so now it’s time to go wild.
Thanks Alison – I was here for a week in July and not too bothered by the heat. I figure I had been locked in the house for 3-4 months of winter in the northeast, so less time outside in the summer is workable.
And no more snow shoveling! We had about five feet last winter.
I’d love to get together – maybe we can start with a lunch and see what happens. First couple weeks of December?
I’m in the west off 620 at Steiner Ranch.
There were a bunch of reasons why I came here… better lifestyle, cost of living, weather, health of the economy, and the city itself.
Also, I didn’t really have family in the NJ area anymore, and work from home, so figured it was time for a new adventure.
How did you end up here?
Great suggestions, don’t forget about Pappasitos for great Tex-Mex! There is only one in Austin and it’s not real convenient from where you are living but if you’re ever passing through 290 and 35, check it out. The beef and chicken fajitas are the best in the land!
Welcome to Austin. I have been here three years from CA. You’ll love the winters but hate the summers. Rudy’s is the best BBQ – IMHO. Maybe all us affiliate marketers should get together? It would be nice to meet others in the same profession. I live north Austin at the Riata Apts. – The big complex off 183.
What brought you to Austin?
Thanks – I’ve got a lot of eating to do. Better head to the gym now!
I like this weird thing with people smiling and saying hi.
Rudy’s is solid and close to you. Salt Lick is a must-do experience but takes time. You’ll wait at least an hour but they have bands playing outside and you need to BYOB.
Other than that, try them all. County Line is pretty good. The one on Bee Caves Rd has a patio/view. The other on 2222 is on the Lake.
And don’t forget Tex Mex – Maudie’s, Guerro’s, Chuy’s by Zilker Park. And the Iron Cactus is right by you in the Galleria Mall. All are kid friendly.
p.s. – people actually do smile here. So that guy waiving to you at the intersection really is letting you go first instead of flipping you the bird
Thanks Stephanie – sounds great. I think post-Thanksgiving would be best, as we’re still settling.
Also, I’m definitely up for getting together when Durk is in town.
Hey Shawn, WELCOME TO AUSTIN!! When you’re ready to venture out to eat some awesome Mexican food, let me know. I will NOT lead you astray!
Durk Price will be here in a couple of weeks, maybe we could all meet up?
I’ll be sure to sample all of them in the coming weeks – thanks.
I had Rudy’s a couple months back and liked it, but I definitely need to do some comparison shopping on the BBQ.
Hey Yanks! There is Rudy’s BBQ, which is a chain. Lot’s of people love their bbq. There is also the Salt Lick, but go to the original in Dripping Springs not the new one on 360. There is also Iron Works, downtown by the Four Seasons.
My fav is the Salt Lick. It’s quite an experience.
I’m sure I am forgetting some others, but those are the ones coming to mind.
Let me know when is good for you and a place you’d recommend for BBQ – you can reach me at http://scr.im/affiliatetip (don’t want to put my email here for the bots to grab).
I am near downtown.
Thanks Allen – I’m getting the hang of the way people don’t consider stop signs to be optional. It’s so ingrained in me to approach intersections with a “survival of the fittest” mentality.
I love the BBQ – I’m out at Steiner Ranch and just about 5 miles from the Rudy’s on 620. Where are you?
Hey – I just moved here from NYC 3 mos ago – welcome… couple things to note:
1. they stop at 4-way stop signs. They pull up, stop, take out the daily paper, read a few pages and then go.
2. they don’t go the speed limit on the highway, they go below it. be warned
The BBQ is good here and like you, I am not trading in my Yankees cap.
Maybe we can meet sometime for some bbq.
