Yesterday at SMX Social Media, Danny Sullivan was running through StumbleUpon and one of the sites that came up was What if Google had to design their user interface for Google?.
It’s a funny site that takes you step by step through the bastardization of a page to improve it’s appearance to the Google Gods.
Anyhow, the end result is a big, hot mess of a page.
One noteworthy item on there was the mythical relationship Google had forged with LinkShare (see “Sites We Like”) towards the end of the transformation.
Funny because back in 2005 when Stephen Messer, then head of LinkShare, stated at Affiliate Summit that Google was one of their main competitors, many in the audience chuckled.
A couple years later, it’s reality.

They chuckled because from an ocular perspective Google didn’t look like much, it kind of whizzed its way into the forefront using the ‘force’ I suppose.
