I'd like to add a couple of items if I could.

Simply making a couple of posts will get you indexed if you use WP since it auto-pings several different blog directories for you.

You may also want to submit each post URL to social news sites like Digg, NewsVine, and/or Propeller. That'll shonuff get you indexed in no time.

I'd also like to mention that indexing alone won't get you any real traffic for a couple months or longer even if you stay active and consistent (unless you blog about specific news items that people are searching for).

So the reader may want to rely more on social networking and social news sites in the mean time. Social networking sites will send you decent direct traffic if you network within your niche, while search engine traffic will find you easier via social news sites since they already rank well.

All of this without spamming of course – cause that's just not cool.

Most of the time if the forum moderators see that you are adding value eg: helping others on the forum, they won't mind a small non obtrusive link back to your site.
