DoubleClick Performics has announced the launch of a new Publisher Recognition Program, Affiliate VIP.

According to their announcement…

Affiliate VIP (Very Important Publisher) recognizes outstanding affiliate publishers in the DoubleClick Performics network. To be eligible for Affiliate VIP, publishers must achieve the network’s highest levels of performance and productivity, as well as demonstrate best practices in terms of compliance, transparency, and responsiveness.

Benefits for being an Affiliate VIP include:

  • Dedicated Publisher Relationship Manager to provide guidance, best practices, and help champion their business
  • Increased recognition/visibility in the DoubleClick Performics network, including a special Affiliate VIP icon viewable by advertisers
  • Invitations to special events, including the annual DoubleClick Performics Client Summit

Affiliates will be evaluated each quarter for entry into the program, and those selected will be notified of their Affiliate VIP status.

Sounds like a good program, though the name is reflective of the industry bipolarity when it comes to what we call the people that work hard to earn commissions referring sales, clicks, and leads.

To me, they are affiliates. I am an affiliate. Others prefer publishers.

Anyhow, good to see the Affiliate Very Important Publishers are being recognized.

It is strange to me that a company would publicly (or even privately) segment their earners like this. Speaking from experience, a publisher will never become a "VIP" unless they have the direct personal assistance from their affiliate managers from the beginning. Publishers need to be nurtured at every point in the relationship. Companies like HydraMedia have "VIP" service for every single one of their affiliates. I've seen our monthly revenue with Hydra grow steadily over the last year and I attribute it solely to the personal 1-on-1 service we've received from them. I can understand monthly rewards or prizes for top earners, but reserving top service exclusively for them is a lose-lose situation for both DoubleClick and their publishers.
