Q: Which is better for generating income, parking a domain or building a site with affiliate links?
A: First off, I’d suggest testing both methods, because it depends on the market for PPC ads for the niche of the domain, as well as the age and popularity of the domain.
If it is a new domain that people aren’t likely to type in, I think you’d be better off developing a site.
Now I am biased towards affiliate marketing, and to be honest, I don’t see how a page of ads would work, but I am amazed that people respond to long sales pages, too.
I’ve tried parking domains here and there with a domains that were many years old, had a decent amount of inbound links, and they were indexed in the major search engines.
I didn’t see much return.
Then again, it depends on your interest and dedication to building the affiliate site. If you’re looking for a quick hit, building a quality affiliate site isn’t for you.
The affiliate site is more of an ongoing investment.

Domaineering is the web-based marketing business of acquiring and monetizing Internet domain names focusing on their use as an advertising medium rather than primarily speculating on domains as intellectual property investments for resale as in domaining where generating advertising revenue is considered more of a bonus while awaiting a sale. In essence, the domain names function as virtual Internet billboards with generic domain names being highly valued for their revenue generating potential derived from attracting Internet traffic hits.
Totally agree with you
I have dabbled in domain parking as well. Got some old domains parked and drove traffic to it and..nothing.
Same URLs as affiliate marketing sites are now making me some money
I am close to thinking this domain parking thing is a bit hit and miss
With affiliate marketing, you can take virtually any URL to profitability even if it is just $10 a month.

I agree. I feel that affiliate sites only work if you provide the great content that people are searching for. Provide them this while providing them with a product to solve their problem will lead you to great fortunes in affiliate marketing.
I agree that a page of affiliate ads will simply not sale. I made many mistakes when I first started affiliate marketing and have learned so much from them. Have you ever considered web site flipping? You can make tons of money if your good at it!
Anyways I enjoyed reading this post. Please take a look at my blog on making legit internet money.
