I just received my new Dell Adamo XPS laptop and unboxed it.
It’s the thinnest laptop on the market at just 9.99mm thin and it weighs in at 3.2 lbs. That’s a whole lot thinner and lighter than my previous laptop, a Dell Studio XPS 13.
For what it’s worth, I liked the packaging that came with the Adamo XPS. It was simple, yet stylish and elegant. I am not sure why I am mentioning that, since I tossed it in the trash after getting the goods out. I figured somebody might want to know since this is about “unboxing” it.
Some more important stuff… the guts of the machine. It’s got a 13.4-inch widescreen 16:9 HD display, 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo ULV processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, and 128GB solid state drive.
Not a giant drive, but it’s my travel laptop, and I carry a portable external hard drive with 1 TB on it.
It also has a 2MP webcam and mono digital microphone, and for the input/output, it’s got DisplayPort, two USB 2.0 ports and a headphone connector. Standard connectors via external dongle: RJ45, DVI. Optional connectors via external dongle: VGA, HDMI.
I first saw the Adamo XPS, and got to play with it a little, at the recent Dell CAP (Customer Advisory Panel) Days event.
In addition to the things I like about it inside and out, one aesthetic feature that appealed to me was the raised keyboard. It just makes it easier and more comfortable for me to type.
I’m looking forward to traveling with less stress on my laptop bag carrying shoulder, and having the use of this beauty when I’m on the road.

The position in the picture is when it’s fully open, but you could position it different angles.
I’ve used it mostly on my lap so far and it hasn’t felt different from any other laptop I’ve used.
Looks very slick. Curious, how does it work if you want to use it on your lap? It would seem the raised keyboard wouldn’t work so well.
I finally picked mine up yesterday. I love it even better than I loved my MacBook Air, before it started giving me the ColorWheel of Pain every day… several times a day. It feels even lighter than the Air and for some reason, more sturdy.
I like and trust them.
My previous laptop (Dell Studio XPS 13) was worked long and hard without any issues, as were my laptops before that.
Thanks for putting up the video. Looks like a great laptop. Perfect size and shape. I might buy one. My only reluctance are the problems I had with my current laptop, a Dell XPS M1330. Problems (which Dell eventually fixed) included loud fan noise which wouldn’t shut off and Dell denied was a problem (similar to other comment above), and a video card that basically melted down (which caused the fan to over crank, once the video card was replaced, all worked). Please keep us up to date on performance and any quality issues as I like Dell, but can’t trust Dell.
Please share a copy of your receipt – did you buy it at a store? Otherwise, I don’t see why you’d need a receipt, since your account information with Dell would have a record of the sale.
I’d be very curious to see the configuration that a gamer like yourself would select on a machine that is not advertised as a gaming machine.
I bought the same thing last month, it is really bad – it is loud and I suggest you return it like I did. It’s so loud that I couldn’t even concentrate typing, and the 1.4gz speed is very slow, it can’t play games not even on lowest setting and youtube videos are laggy.
You should perhaps keep the receipt and return it like I did… I got myself a 5 year old ibm laptop, cleaned it inside and put a ssd in it (now you rarely hear a noise unlike the dell) – the machine rocks!
That looks amazing Shawn. I love the way the keyboard tilts off the screen like that. It would definitely be classified as a good desktop replacement with the way it looks. I think that may be what they were thinking when they designed it with the raised keyboard.
Looks awesome even tho I’m a mac person! Totally agree with the comment about traveling with this baby tho it will relieve so much stress. I have the macbook air and its a dream when traveling. Have fun ;D
