Death of the Affiliate Program Directory

by on February 10, 2009

I worked at Refer-it.com, the first affiliate program directory, back in 1999-2000, and it was a great resource back then.

Over time, the original folks moved on and Refer-it became a big mess of ads and outdated content. That was the case of pretty much every affiliate program directory from the early days.

So, I decided to start up an affiliate program directory myself many years ago to address the shortcomings I saw in the others that were out there.

But the time has come to say goodbye to this project. There are so many other outlets for finding out about affiliate programs now, so I think the directory has outlived it’s usefulness.

Anyhow, in the coming months (after the existing premium listings have run their course), I’ll be redirecting the URL where it lives: affiliatething.com.

And it would make sense to point that domain to the Affiliate Thing podcast anyway.

This means the list I’ve maintained for years of the top affiliate programs will soon cease to be updated, too, as this list has been based on the most popular listings in the directory.
