This week on the Brandmouthing podcast, I talk about how it’s very uncool to have a Barbie lunch box for a second grader at my local school.
I found this out when my daughter, Lexie, came home in tears after being teased for hers.
So, I went out and got her a Hannah Montana lunch box and her reputation was repaired.

LOL Greta post, I just went thru this will my 10 yr old nephew and his new “cool” winter coat..
I’ve got three girls and I don’t care for all this crass branding the the race to get kids to grow up.
I took all three (6, 8, and 10 years old) to see Miley Cyrus in concert, and I was surprised at how much she was trying to distance herself from Hannah Montana and come across more as Britney Spears.
My youngest asked why she was just wearing her underwear for some songs.
I’ve wrote and article a few months ago about a doll (specifically the Gwen Doll in the American Girl line), and it annoyed me that the story line behind Gwen was that her father was a deadbeat and her mother and her were forced into homelessness as a result. Not only did I think it was a stupid message to be giving a young girl (8 is the average age of the girls buying it), but I agree with your link and the central argument that young kids are being forced to grow up too quickly. There is no imagination left, it’s all overpriced branded stuff. By the way, did you know that Mattel started using the Barbie Girl song by Aqua in their commercials? This after the lawsuit and everything! The pink is beyond bothersome.
