Blended Google AdSense Creative

by on September 3, 2007

I was just looking through some pages on one of my sites, and I noticed some interesting ads displayed by Google AdSense.

These ads are blending the AdSense for Content Ad Unit, which I selected to display, but they are also working in some Link Unit creative to the creative.

Here is an example of one of the blended AdSense ads running on my site:

Google AdSense ad that combines an Ad Unit and Link Unit

And here is another one:

Google AdSense 468x60 ad with an Ad Unit and Link Unit combined

The Ad Units are the detailed text ads at the top of each ad, and then Link Units are the series of four keywords at the bottom of each ad.

I’m not sure how long these types have ads have been out there, but this is the first time I’ve seen them in the wild.

They look a little cluttered for my taste, and I don’t see anywhere in the reporting to indicate the effectiveness of these ads versus the non-blended ads.

If anybody knows if this sort of report exists, please let me know.

Nice, I had something similiar happen to me today!

When I was working on another site’s layout today, and I saw what you were talking about the keywords. Since the layout was fairly new to me, I thought it was built into theme, but after looking at it again, it dissapeared! Then I realized it was part of the ad :)

I bet Google was just trying to switch things around!

Cheers Dave
