Best Website Platform for SEO

by on May 28, 2009

Q: From your experience, what is the best platform for an affiliate marketing website, in terms of faster, natural search engine rankings, landing pages, etc.?

  • Traditional silo structured website with a multi-level navigation bar
  • WordPress blog with an SEO plugin by itself
  • WordPress blog with an SEO plugin installed in a sub-folder of a traditional silo structured website

A: First, let me be clear that I am not an expert on SEO by any means. But I can say that the sites I create do get indexed well for the keywords I focus on.

In my opinion, WordPress as the sole content management system is the way to go for your site.

There are two directions I’ve taken with WordPress blogs that have worked out well for search engine optimization.

One method is to use a plugin called All in One SEO Pack.

And then another route I’ve taken is to use the Thesis theme without the SEO plugin.

The Thesis site states…

Thesis boasts the strongest SEO of any theme on the market today thanks to its expertly-coded HTML + CSS + PHP framework. Not only that, Thesis also contains additional options that will allow you to fine-tune each and every page of your site. The days of worrying about your in-site SEO are over—with Thesis, your strategy is “just add killer content.”

While I am not going into the code and snooping around the architecture, I can tell you that the sites I’ve set up in Thesis rank well.

@Melayu Boleh:
I haven’t used the Platinum SEO Pack, yet.

Hmm .. all in one seo pack again? I prefer more on platinum seo pack. But I still use all in one seo pack in one of my blog.

I just want to know what’s your opinion about platinum seo pack?

Wordpress’s strength lies on its wide range of available plugins geared for SEO campaign. It is difficult to imagine a Wordpress blog without incorporating these invaluable plugins. There are many good ones. Just try them out for yourself.

Yes, I’m hearing good things about thesis; I purchased it yesterday and am eager to try it out. I’m told that knowing .css is important if you want to make fine detail changes to the layout.

I posed the same question in the WP.org forum where a moderator suggested to go with a WP blog with a static first page to serve as a “home page” where I can link to other static pages, just like a regular website.

Your Message@Ron Givens:
I haven’t heard anything either way about 2.8 – I have a half dozen blogs, so I don’t want to jump into Betas, in the event there are compatibility issues.

Yes, our template over at our Email Marketing Tips blog is something that was built in-house, right around the time we released our analytics package.

We do use Wordpress 2.7 for the content management.

Have you heard any good news on 2.8?

Ron Givens May 29, 2009 at 2:21 pm

Yes, the template we use for the AWeber Email Marketing blog is built in-house, although we do use Wordpress for the content itself.

I have always found 2.7 to be really easy to work with, although I would also like to take a look at 2.8

I know there some testing going on right now with 2.8

What is the theme you guys are using? Something built in-house?

Ron Givens May 29, 2009 at 2:00 pm

I installed that All In One Pack on my blog. It is very useful and quite easy to install.

Those guys did a great job with that plugin. It is very intuitive.

I can’t speak to Joomla, because I haven’t used it myself.

What do you think of using joomla as a platform for an affiliate site?
