AVG Anti-Virus versus Affiliate Marketing

There is a thread on ABestWeb discussing a troubling new development where AVG Anti-Virus is putting up alerts for affiliate links.
It seems the alerts are coming up for users on Internet Explorer and Firefox, but not Chrome and Opera.
And with the Christmas season coming quickly, there are a lot of potential customers that could be blocked from using affiliate links. According to download.com, AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 9.0.686 has had 226,636,250 downloads (1,547,382 just last week).
