On July 29th 2005 you answered a question with regard to compensating an affiliate manager. How different are those numbers now?
The post from July 2005Â was based on the AffStat 2005 Report. In that report, I asked the affiliate managers, “What is your annual salary (including incentives and bonuses)?”. The results were as follows.
| Less than $40k | 21% |
| $40k to $50k | 14% |
| $50k to $60k | 12% |
| $60k to $70k | 6% |
| $70k to $80k | 13% |
| $80k to $90k | 8% |
| $90k to $100k | 6% |
| $100k to $110k | 4% |
| $110k to $120k | 6% |
| More than $120k | 10% |
The latest AffStat report had a bit of a different methodology for affiliate manager earnings. This time around, I broke out the data for affiliate managers earning a salary and outsourced affiliate managers working on retainer.
The salaried affiliate manager figures came out as follows for the AffStat 2007 Report. The salaries include any incentives and/or bonuses received by the affiliate managers.
| Less than $40k | 24% |
| $40k to $50k | 24% |
| $50k to $60k | 11% |
| $60k to $70k | 3% |
| $70k to $80k | 12% |
| $80k to $90k | 2% |
| $90k to $100k | 10% |
| $100k to $120k | 4% |
| More than $120k | 10% |
Outsourced affiliate managers earned the following in monthly compensation. These figures include a percent of transactions if applicable.
| < $2k | 13% |
| $2k to $4k | 17% |
| $4k to $6k | 22% |
| $6k to $8k | 13% |
| $8k to $10k | 4% |
| > $10k | 31% |

This is very informative, makes me want to renegotiate my salary
reply to this commentBrian, it is pretty interesting stuff. I’m impressed with the number of OPM’s who are earning 10k + monthly.
reply to this commentThat actually makes me want to consider going the affiliate manager route, as opposed to the affiliate route. Anyone know if AM’s can work from home?

Lots of affiliate management agencies will let you work from home.
Check out http://www.affiliatebuyersguide.com/index.php?cat=22 and make some calls to the companies listed.
reply to this commentHow much time (hours) an OPM spends in average to charge $2000 in a month with an affiliate program?
reply to this commentHi Connie -
The various agencies vary in their services and pricing, but I would expect less than 10 hours a week from a junior level affiliate manager at that rate.
reply to this commentI’m rather SHOCKED about these numbers actually. How do AM’s make 25k a year and watch their affiliates easily make that in a month and not want to quit and go do affiliate marketing themselves? Is it a different mentatlity to want to be a low paid employee? Shawn I’d be interested in some interviews into tihs just out of curriosity to understand the people I’m dealing with on a day to day basis.

I cannot imagine any program with affiliates making big money has a qualified, experienced affiliate manager.
Rather the companies paying that sort of rate generally have somebody outof college who is new to the game.
> Is it a different mentatlity to want to be a low paid employee?
I don’t think anybody wants to be a low paid employee – it’s a matter of getting the first job out of college.
Folks at the bottom of the affiliate marketing pay scale probably never heard of the industry this time last year.
reply to this commentWOW, thanks for this. it makes sence…. does that price go for casino affiliate marketing only or can i apply that to the canadian market also?
reply to this comment> does that price go for casino affiliate marketing only or can i apply that to the canadian market also?
Nothing to do with casinos – it’s affiliate marketing overall.
reply to this commentAgree with Jason. If they know about how affiliate works, it better they do as affiliate too (of course affiliate at another company).
reply to this commentI have a better question. What paperwork and agreements does one need to “legitimize” their business as an outsourced Affiliate Marketing Manager. Companies in the the same industry I’m sure are going to want some agreement saying you agree to not “resell” or “use” the affiliate names and contacts for yourself or other companies.
