Any Affiliate Marketers Want an iPod Nano or Flip Mino HD?

Posted by Shawn Collins on December 3rd, 2008 | 25 Comments

Thanks for visiting the Affiliate Tip blog. Subscribe to my RSS feed or enter your e-mail on the top left to get updates by e-mail.

I am running a contest, sponsored by Market Leverage, during the month of December 2008 where the winner will have the choice of either an iPod Nano or a Flip Mino HD.

It’s easy to enter – just submit a video or text tip related to affiliate marketing. It’s got to be original – I will dig around to see if you swiped it from somewhere.

There are a bunch of other blogs in on this contest via Market Leverage, and the winner at each blog will be considered for on of three Grand Prizes.

I select the winner here, and all of the participating blogs running the contest will vote for the Grand Prize winners who will receive a Market Leverage Grand Prize Pack that includes an Amazon Kindle, a $100 Market Leverage Rewards Card and a $50.00 iTunes Gift Card.

The grand prize winners will be announced on January 5, 2009.

Some fine print for you to read…

  1. You can only use Market Leverage as an example network in your submission.
  2. Your entry can be submitted by a text or video comment on my blog. For a video comment, please upload your video to YouTube, tag it with “Market Leverage Share Your Secret”, and submit the link to your video in the comments section on my blog.
  3. All entries must be submitted by 7pm on December 31, 2008.

Don’t put it off – share your tip, so I have the chance to award you an iPod Nano or Flip Mino HD.

Personally, I’d go for the Flip Mino HD – it’s a pretty sweet looking device. Just 3.3 ounces, and it produces HD 720p (1280 x 720 resolution at 30 frames per second; 16:9 wide-screen) video.

I am not sure whether you are going to think my affiliate idea is unique but using video and utube videos to promote other people first that will then boost your own site with their endorsement.

I'll throw one in… Work Smarter, Not Harder is my mantra. In that you should work to make your processes more efficient so you can do more with your time more effectively than working long hours at tasks that can be simplified.

As I said on my own blog, make a plan and work your plan. You have to plan. All sales in all niches follow cycles (as evidenced by this recent Cyber Week and Black Friday). Plan for these cycles, but also plan for where you want/need your business to grow.
This also brings up a second point, even if you are doing affiliate marketing part-time, this is your business; take it seriously. Create a business plan, create a set schedule (even 1 hour/day) and live up to your commitments.

My secret to making money online is to take it offline. Turn off the laptop and go meet people. Network at conferences, join meet up groups in your area, and shake hands with people. Build relationships with people in your space. Somewhere down the road an opportunity will open and because you put in the effort to make connections, you’ll get the first phone call.

A great money-making tip is to do some pay-per-click testing for some of your affiliate merchant partners.

First you have to make sure that you are following their terms & conditions to make sure they allow you to do pay-per-click on their behalf. After that, go to Google Adwords, Yahoo or MSN put in a few bucks and give it a try. Start off small and track your conversions and ROI to make sure it is working, then cut what isn’t working and expand on what is working.

    Hi
Here is my entry for the contest :

    ————————————————————
Secret Tips for making Big $$ via affiliate marketing

Here are some few tips for the starters or experienced affiliate publishers.

    - Don't get dis-appointed if you don't make much at the start. Everything starts slowly. Keep working and give your full dedication – results will follow.

    - For starters – start with some Free product offers OR zip/email submit offers – you will find many on marketleverage.
Create an attractive landing page and start off with PPC campaigns. You can use some free coupons for yahoo/google PPC to get yourself familiar with them. You can do some direct linking too on yahoo. Keep your bids low as these offers are low paying CPA offers. They work better on content network instead of search.

    - As you go ahead, you can start promotion free trial offers and other big offers which fetches more $$ per lead. For this you have to research a lot as you will be placing high bids for those keywords. Go with long tailed keywords with lower bids and see if that works. Try and research, create different landing pages and different ad campaigns for each.

    - Ask for exclusive CPA with your AM if you are getting good results for a particular campaign. Bargain with them, and ask for promotional tools, landing pages and keywords for the same.

    - Try to promote on Myspace, Facebook, MSN and other networks for a wider audience. Change your CPC and see which one works best as regards to ROI.

    Have Great Earnings :D

My best tip is to start with what you know. The world of affiliate marketing is huge, and it is easy to get sidetracked when you see people making money in so many different ways. Whether you are starting a blog or doing PPC, start in an area that you know something about–a hobby, your hometown, your favorite sport, etc. If you start with something you know, you will not only have a sense of familiarity with the subject but will also be truly interested in what you are doing. It may or may not be the area that you will end up making money in. But it will be a start in the business. Then once you learn the fundamentals, you can start moving outside your comfort zone into any of the thousands of different niches and subjects that you can monetize.

Too much information (T.M.I.): Do not become overwhelmed by the thousands of blog entries, redundant news stories, untold amounts of forum postings, trade show clinics, etc. Be knowledgeable of the basic industry lingo and stick to what you have a full understanding of. There's only so much information the human mind can retain and comprehend. You will not be ran out of town or the internet for not knowing a term which was created and coined a few hours or weeks ago. Confusion is the road to losing sales, clients, and command of the situation at hand.

    My Tip:

Find a hungry market with three qualifications:

    1) An irrational amount of passion: People who are fanatics about model trains for example.
    2) Urgent need or to solve a problem: Going into debt, need a cure for a disease, etc…
    3) Money to spend: Golfers, People with a steady income, or perhaps even 18 year olds with credit cards.

    My Tip:

Reduce the number of distractions. As an example, email and instant messaging are great tools, but constantly checking emails or being always available on IM are perfect ways to interrupt a workflow process. Make it a habit to close email and to be invisible on IM for 2 hours at a time. The spend 15 minutes for IM and email if necessary. Rinse and repeat and the productivity curve goes high up. Announce fixed schedules to affiliate managers and friends of when you will be available online and then ignore things for anything in between.

Your goal as an affiliate should be to monetize your traffic as efficiently as possible, don't waste the traffic. I mean 2 things by this.

    1) If your landing page is getting a 30% CTR to the offer, that means you aren't doing anything with the other 70% of your visitors. How do you fix this? Use a javascript exit pop and send them to the offer or to another landing page. Most people that do this see at least a 10% lift in sales.

    2) Why not get 2 or 3 sales for the price of 1. Upselling and cross-selling are your friend. Try and find other offers at Market Leverage that are comparable or can work in combination with the offer you are running. Now try and sell your visitors on 2 or 3 products instead of 1.

Being more efficient with your traffic will bring a lot of income

    Hi Shawn,

Cool contest. Here's my tip: Customized Landing Pages for Affiliate Offers

If you are serious about making money from an affiliate program offer, you should create a customized landing page on your web site to promote it.

This page should detail the benefits of the product and how it will solve problems or improve the life of the customer. Pretty pictures and testimonials specific to that product are a good idea, too.

2 strategies that can help with this are minimizing distractions and meeting the expectations of the customer. If a potential customer clicks on your PPC ad that promotes a new weight-loss product, make sure that the page she lands on focuses on that weight-loss product.

The landing page should not promote anything else that might distract her from focus on your offer. Ideally, you can create a landing page that does not even have a navigational menu or sidebars with other distracting links.

By clicking on your link or ad to reach that page, the customer has already demonstrated an interest in the product.

Don’t distract her from the all-important click through to the affiliate merchant’s web site for purchase.

Affiliate Tip: Learn to leverage your time with what you know and focus on one particular arena and once you have a full scope of how to do that then move on to the next thing that is needed to make your business successful. EXAMPLE: week one – study, learn and IMPLEMENT how to do article marketing. Week two – study, learn and put into ACTION video marketing. Week three – study, learn take ACTION on press releases. Week four – social media etc. I believe that once you understand how a full functioning Internet Business operates, then outsource what you need to to be a more effective marketer.

Tip #2 : Also a great suggestion to learn to manage time is to do a "daily did sheet". Print out a worksheet for couple days and break them into hourly increments. Put it by your computer and write down throughout your day all that you are doing so that the whole work day has been filled in. After you have done this for several days you'll be amazed to see how your time has been allocated and to where your focus has been. It's a great tool for seeing how you can better manage your work day!

My tip to beginning affiliate marketers is to focus more on demographic targeting than keyword targeting and destroy the content network. Here is an example and the steps on how to do it:
    1. Pick an offer from Market Leverage
    2. Determine the target demographic for that offer (extra tip: Use Quantcast.com, it is awesome and free!)
    3. Create your keyword list around things that interest the demographic, not just the obvious keywords.

    Example:
We are going to be promoting Market Leverage offer 4648, Liftsp Facelift stuff… We go to Quantcast.com and enter the url of the offer, http://www.yourownperfectface.com. This gives us a ton of information about the target demographic. Based on a quick review, we will be targeting women from 18-49. Based on this, we can start looking for sites that target women in this demo and have adsense so we can target those sites specifically through the Google content network. Dont look for skin sites, think outside the box… Pregnancy websites, weight loss websites, cooking websites, wedding websites, etc…
