Text links and banners are so yesterday. It’s all about video now, and there are lots of ways affiliates can leverage video on their sites, but not really in e-mail newsletters.
E-mail provides a great opportunity to bring the interactive elements of video to a captive audience, but the code for embedding video doesn’t work in e-mail (at least in my testing).
That doesn’t mean your video cannot be promoted in e-mail, it’s just that you have to be a little creative.
Magnify.net offers basic, smart features that I don’t see at MySpace and YouTube - the option to syndicate video via e-mail. In addition to providing code to embed video on a site, they also supply some plain HTML to place a static image of the video that links to the live version.
So if you want to feature static images of video in your newsletters, you can start up an account with Magnify.net and have videos from Blip.tv, Google Video, Revver, Yahoo Video and YouTube linked into your account. That way, you can easily generate the e-mail ready code.
Otherwise, you could always make a screen capture of the video at your favorite video service, and crop it down as a .jpg yourself.
