Affiliate Idea to Capitalize on the Gas Crisis

by on June 14, 2008

I just got back from running some errands and got an idea while filling up at the gas pump.

As the dollars ticked up at a rate of more than $4 per gallon, I thought his gas crisis could make for a good affiliate site.

After all, if people have to spend a gallon or three to get to the local mall, the cost to go shopping becomes prohibitive to lots of folks.

So I thought I’d put together a mall or coupon site that touched on the cost of gas as another reason to shop online.

Plus, the site could espouse the virtues of shopping online as a more green way to shop.

I was about to jump into WordTracker to research popular searches regarding gas, fuel, etc. to get ideas for a domain, and then I realized that I just don’t have time for a new project.

So here it is – a site I think could do well with the right positioning and PR efforts.

It’s all yours to leverage the unfavorable gas prices.

Shawn…that's really witty.

We're also trying to come up with some good banners for autopartswarehouse affiliate program on how consumers can save gas and increase car mileage with a few car part enhancements

Law 3 of the 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing – The Law of the Mind…

It's better to be first in the mind than to be first in the marketplace.

I don't think that domain conveys anything and the homepage is busy. The game is wide open.

If your car has books, golf clubs, tools, clothes etc, take them out of your car. Extra weight means it takes more fuel to get up to speed.

What part of NJ are you in?

It's not cheap in Union County.

Hey Shawn,
Interesting thought – would be worth exploring. Another thought – maybe it is time to promote green products!
cheers,

Hey Shawn,
That's a nice idea… Gas prices are just ridiculous these days (although it's cheapest here in NJ), but like you said it can be leveraged to start a nice affiliate marketing campaign.

You're giving away a great idea but I think it's general enough for a lot of people to adopt it. Thanks!

Great idea. It's something I blogged about a year ago March — http://blog.shopping-bargains.com/2007/03/09/ti… (and I wrote that post up on $3/gal. gas) but haven't driven the point home. Even if one has to pay for shipping, it's usually still a bargain to shop online over driving to the mall.
